The Swipple Has Landed! at Max Fish
works by affiliates of the Swipple artist collective
Swipple is a collaborative network of artists who exhibit artwork online through the Swipple.com website. The primary motivation behind the Swipple project is simple: to provide a forum and exhibit space for high-quality artwork, in a setting that is broad enough in scope to reflect a wide range of artists and practices, and yet is limited enough to retain a sense of intimacy and cohesion among the artists. Swipple is committed to uncovering and presenting artwork from the vast pool of little known artists plugging away at the periphery of the art-world proper, but exhibits the artwork of emerging and mid-career artists as well. The aesthetic direction is dictated largely by chance, and of course nepotism, and while in that way it parallels the art world, we hope that it does so in its own unique and interesting way. Visitors to the website are not required to have any background in the arts, and are welcome to make their own decisions about what they like. We suggest only that artists be taken as much as possible on their own terms.

In the upcoming exhibit, Ill Fitting (27 Sizes), Swipple continues its
mission of bringing together a diverse blend of artists who span a
broad cross-section of art-making in the US today. From the highly
trained to the self-taught, from young to old, from art-world insiders
to relative unknowns, Swipple looks first to the artwork, seeking out a
resonance among artists not so much in style but in sensibility.
Here you’ll find photography from widely exhibited New York based
writer/publisher/skater Jocko Weyland next to visionary airplane
designs from Canton Belanger, whose work is rarely seen outside his
attic studio. Work from mail art pioneer and all around madman E.F.
Higgins III will hang next to the wacky conceptualism of San Francisco
based Brion Nuda Rosch. Russian born Chicago artist Julia Kuhl checks
in with her delicate and lovely watercolors, Los Angeles landscapist
David Skinner contributes secret vistas, & Florida born Steve MacDonald
rounds out our geographic claim to the lower 48 with his unbelievable
hand-stitched glitter flecked panoramas. Silvio Barille, fresh from a
recent feature in Raw Vision, has promised to loan us whatever size
concrete sculpture we can lift, and Jim Damron continues to cement his
status as a true American master with his recent oil paintings and
light sculptures.

Destroy Everything
Faster Louder! presents 'Destroy Everything,' a bicoastal art show
featuring artists from New York and San Francisco. The exhibit
includes an eclectic blend of urban art...from bikes to grafitti to
found objects, the stuff of our cities are made of. Join us for the
opening and celebrate the one year anniversary of King Kog. The
opening reception will be on December 29th at 7 pm at the Dam
Stuhltrager Gallery (conveniently located next to King Kog),

'Gray Area Gallery Presents: "SUGAR SUGAR" Winter Installation!'
For There is something about December. Something about the crisp air and something about the warm feelings it conjures up. December becomes that heartbeat we feel while walking down a cold and windy street and makes us feel at home, even while so many are so far from it…
This December 8th the Gray Area Gallery welcomes you into our home to celebrate December and our interpretation on the nostalgia of winter. Curator Catherine Kaleel invites you to gather around the fire and witness the tales of her favorite San Francisco artists. An emphasis on textile and fiber art, embroidery, appliqué, and even stuffed animals will take the stage created by a myriad of urban contemporary mixed media artists. Decoupage, illustration, and installation also provide stark landscapes that mimic what the weather brings to our artists along with the warmth of their winter shelters and fuzzy sweaters.

Gray Area Gallery is a burgeoning urban contemporary art gallery and Artist in Residence program launched on November 4th, 2006 by the founders of the Hear Gallery LA. Each curator at GAG has license to completely transform the 2,000 square foot space each month, creating a entirely new experience for the urban art collector and aficionado to savor upon return. After a smash inaugural opening, Gray Area Gallery warmly invites you to their winter opening.
